Bring Your Buildings and Landscapes to Life!
Join Cindy Laneville for another creative journey in glass-on-glass mosaic as we explore the art of bringing buildings and their surrounding landscapes to life through stained glass!
In this workshop, Cindy will demonstrate her approach to creating a weathered red country barn nestled within a rural landscape, exploring how perspective, colour, light, shadow, and carefully placed glass can create depth, texture, and dimension.
We'll explore the unique challenges of working with architectural features, from rooflines and windows to the textures of wood, stone, and other building materials, while learning how to blend these structural elements naturally into the surrounding landscape.
Each participant will receive Cindy's red barn reference image and printable pattern.
Your Building, Your Choice!
Would you prefer to create your own building and landscape?
You're welcome to work from a favourite photograph or another architectural scene that inspires you! Whether it's a charming country cottage, an old farmhouse, a historic building, or a modern structure, simply share your chosen image with Cindy beforehand so she can confirm it's suitable for the workshop.
The goal isn't to create identical mosaics, but to learn techniques you can apply to your own artwork.
What You'll Learn
- Perspective & Proportion: Understanding the basic shapes, angles, and relationships that give buildings their structure.
- Light, Shadow & Values: Using different shades and colours of glass to create depth and dimension.
- Architectural Details: Interpreting rooflines, windows, doors, wood siding, stonework, and other building features.
- Texture & Directional Placement: Using the shape, size, and direction of glass pieces to create a painterly effect.
- The Surrounding Landscape: Incorporating trees, foliage, pathways, fields, and other natural elements to complement the building.
- Bringing It All Together: Creating a cohesive composition where the building and landscape work together naturally.
